Station is formed as per Vide GO ( RC ) No. 361/49-Home dtd 15.06.1949. Comprising 5 villages namely Chavara, Panmana, Thevalakara, Mynagappally & Thekkumbhagam in Karunagappally Thaluk having 47 karas in total situated within the limits of Sasthamcotta and West Kallada on the East Ashtamudi lake & Neendakara bridge on the South Arabia sea on the West and Kannetty bridge on the North.

Chavara Police Station commenced on 14th June 1949 as per RDC No.361/49 Home dtd14.06.1949. The new Police Station building opened on 22.08.2005 as per GO (Rt) No.2126/05 Home dtd 17.08.2005 and SRO No.790/05 dtd. 22.08.05. This Police Station is situated in Sankaramangalam and homed in near Government Building on the eastern side of NH-47.

Kottankulangara Devi Temple

The Kottankulangara Devi Temple is a Hindu temple to the goddess Bhagavathy, located in the village of Chavara near Kollam, an old sea port and town on the Arabian coast in Kerala, India.

The Kottankulangara Festival (or Kottankulangara Chamayavilakku) is held annually at the temple in which men from across the state and now even outside it dress in female attire. The cross-dressing is part of traditional ritual festivities and at night they hold traditional lamps and walk in procession to the temple to the accompaniment of a traditional orchestra. Devotees visit the temple to seek the blessings of the goddess


St Andrew's Church, Kovilthottam

St Andrew's Church, Kovilthottam is a historic colonial era Roman Catholic church that is located within the limits of Chavara P.S.

It was established and first built in 1398, in Portuguese India. It was rebuilt in 1779 by the Franciscan missionary Father Yovakim de Santiago. The church is also a parish church, part of the Diocese of Quilon, established in the 14th century.

The 1779 church was built in the Portuguese Colonial style, and dedicated to St Andrew. The church building was renovated in the 2000s, and subsequently consecrated by the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Quilon, Stanley Roman. The Church is a popular pilgrimage and tourist destination of Chavara.
